Job Title: Law Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer (Hybrid)
Location: Manchester (1 day per week in office)
Salary: £35000-£50000 DOE
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (4 days remote / 1 day office-based)

About the Role:

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and respected law firm based in central Manchester. They are seeking an experienced Law Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer to join their dedicated in-house Costs team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a legal costs professional with a minimum of 3 years’ experience, especially in Housing Disrepair (HDR) and Financial Mis-Selling (FMS) cases. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of high-value matters and contribute to all aspects of legal costs drafting, budgeting, negotiations, and assessment preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Bills of Costs and Budgets (Precedent H)
  • Draft Points of Dispute and Replies
  • Handle costs negotiations with opposing solicitors and insurers
  • Draft Statements of Costs for Summary Assessment
  • Prepare Schedules of Costs for negotiations
  • Manage Applications for interim costs certificates and payments on account
  • Prepare and issue Part 8 Proceedings
  • Request Default Costs Certificates, where appropriate
  • Provide clear and accurate costs-related legal advice to clients
  • Prepare Provisional and Detailed Assessment documents

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in legal costs work within a fast-paced, high-volume setting
  • Strong experience in HDR and/or FMS casework preferred
  • Proficiency with Proclaim case management system
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with the Electronic Bill of Costs essential
